Welcome to GWS - Inverclyde. We are delighted that you are visiting our web page, where you will find information about our Association and the various activities which we are involved in. We are very welcoming and will be happy to help with any questions you have. Better still, we would be very pleased to have you join us!

About our Association

Our Association was founded in 1988 and currently has 35 members who are, or have been, involved in a wide variety of occupations. Although most of our members live in Inverclyde, several are happy to travel from Renfrewshire, North Ayrshire, West Dunbartonshire and Argyll & Bute to join us. Don't let our title put you off!

Meetings: These are usually held on the 3rd Thursday of the month from September to May in the Tontine Hotel, Ardgowan Square, Greenock, PA16 8NG

Format of Meetings: Members assemble about 5.30 pm for a meal. This provides a good opportunity to chat to friends old and new. Any members unable to attend the meal can join us at 7.00 pm, when our invited speaker will commence.

From 8.00 pm, a small amount of business takes place, some of which may include an update on activities/issues at national and international level, suggestions for good causes which we could support, arrangements for social events, and dates for your diary.

The formalities of the evening are concluded by 9.00 pm, when some of us retire to the lounge for tea, coffee or a glass of wine, and a great deal of chatter! Members' guests are welcome at all meetings, as is anyone interested in finding out more about us.

Our current programme of meetings and social events is listed on the Programme Page.

If you would like to attend, you are advised to contact our Secretary at

Social Activities and Outings at Local Level

Throughout the year, we enjoy a number of purely social occasions, e.g. lunches at West College Scotland's Training Restaurant, a Christmas Lunch, Inverclyde Voices Christmas Concert, quizzes, and a June Lunch at Royal Gourock Yacht Club, to which other Associations are invited. Recent outings have included the Puppet Theatre, Biggar, Greenock Ocean Terminal and Rosslyn Chapel. We also have the opportunity to join the Glasgow and Dundee Associations for outings, lunches, Literary Dinners and the annual Research Presentations Day for PhD students.

Our Contribution to Education

In the past, donations by our generous members have been given to female students involved in academia but as education and training are multifaceted, we have recently invested in the immediate community, e.g. Inverclyde Music Festival Scholarship Fund, 'Branching Out' - an SQA accredited therapeutic horticultural centre for those with support needs, and REACH for Autism - a group with a focus on providing support, services and opportunities for individuals with autism and their families.
